How To Crochet a Pencil Case
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn
- A 5.00mm (H) crochet hook
- A zipper that fits the length of your desired case
- A needle and thread
Steps:
- Create a slipknot: Make a loop, ensuring the tail end of the yarn is on the bottom. Fold the loop down onto the tail end of the yarn. Pull the yarn through the loop to create a slipknot.
- Chain Stitch (ch): After you’ve made your slipknot, slide your crochet hook into the loop and tighten the knot. Wrap the yarn over your hook (from back to front), then grab it with the hook and pull it through the loop on your hook. That’s one chain stitch. You’ll need to make as many chain stitches as the length you want your pencil case to be. For a standard pencil size, 30 chains should be enough.
- Single Crochet (sc): After your chain is complete, do a single crochet into the second chain from the hook, then each chain down the foundation chain. When you reach the end, chain one, then turn your work.
- Repeat: Continue to single crochet in each stitch across, chain one, and turn your work at the end of each row. Repeat this until you have a rectangle that wraps around your pencils with some room to spare.
- Making the Second Panel: Repeat the entire process to create a second identical rectangle. This will form the back of your pencil case.
- Joining the Panels: Place the two pieces on top of each other, then slip stitch them together along three sides (leaving one of the shorter sides open for the zipper). To slip stitch, insert your hook through both pieces of fabric, yarn over, and pull through all loops on the hook.
- Adding the Zipper: Lastly, using your needle and thread, carefully sew the zipper onto the open end.
Remember to weave in all loose ends for a neat finish.
Feel free to add more embellishments, use different stitches, or multiple colors of yarn to customize your pencil case to your liking. Happy crocheting!

Sophia,
I would like to donate 4 large bags of yarn that was given to me awhile ago, in a variety of colors. Would you like them and is there a place to drop them off?
